BATON ROUGE – For seven members of the DeRidder Lady Dragons, Saturday marked the end of their high-schools soccer careers.
In a tough defensive battle, second-seeded University limited the seventh-ranked Lady Dragons to just one shot on goal in a 2-0 quarterfinal victory in the Division III playoffs at Parkview Baptist High School.
Goalkeeper Mya Cole and the rest of the Lady Dragon defense faced wave after wave of shots from University, stopping 20 attempts.
However, a goal from Maggie Hataway in the 27th minute gave University a 1-0 lead in the first half.
The only other goal in the contest came when Lundyn Ladner buried a penalty kick in the back of the net in the 49th minute to account for the final margin of victory.
