ANACOCO — Every time the Fairview Panthers seemed to be gaining momentum, the Anacoco Indians always had an answer.

And most of the time, it came from Kaleb Goodwin.

Goodwin came off the bench to score 15 huge points in leading the Indians to a 67-60 win over the Panthers last Thursday night in a huge District 5-B win.

The Indians took a 17-9 lead after the first eight minutes on the court and moved out to an 11-point advantage at the intermission, owning a 36-25 cushion.

However, behind the play of Brett Jinks, Brennan LeJeune and Dalt Goode, the Panthers began to battle back. Fairview was able to use a 22-17 scoring edge in the third period to trim the deficit to six points, 53-47, going into the final frame of regulation.

The Panthers continued to battle and closed the gap to three points several times, but Anacoco, behind the play of Dustin Welch, Chase Taylor and Emanuel Luzardo, was able to withstand every charge and picked up the big win over rival Fairview.

Welch led the Indians with 17 points, while Taylor and Luzardo added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Jinks poured in a game-high 24 points for Fairview, while LeJeune and Goode added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Win No. 901 wasn’t quite as easy for veteran Fairview head coach Kyle Jinks.

The Fairview Lady Panthers held off a late charge by the Anacoco Lady Indians last Thursday night, holding on for a 47-45 District 5-B road win.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 13-7 lead after one quarter of play and put together a 17-12 scoring edge in the second to go into the locker room with a commanding 30-19 advantage.

But Anacoco refused to go away. The Lady Indians trimmed six points off of the deficit with a 16-10 scoring edge in the third period, closing the gap to 40-35 going into the fourth.

The Lady Indians battled back to tie things up and had a chance late for a game-tying or game-winning shot, but was unable to get a shot off, preserving the Fairview win.

Rylee Cloud led Fairview with 16 points, while Bella Smith and Reesie Jinks finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Abbie Dowden paced Anacoco with 12 points, while Bella Henry and Paige Mayo each had 10 points in the loss.
