Leesville faces Northwood for homecoming

LEESVILLE – It's homecoming week at Leesville High School.
For the students, homecoming week is full of activities. For coaches, it is often seen as a distraction as they prepare for their opponent on Friday night.
The Wampus Cats, coming off an impressive defensive effort in a win last week against Bolton, will take a huge step up in competition as they face the Northwood Falcons out of Shreveport at Wampus Cat Stadium.
The Falcons are undefeated on the field, but have a record of 4-2 as they were forced to forfeit a pair of games from earlier in the season.
Northwood has a pretty balanced attack with a great deal of speed, which will challenge the Wampus Cat defense.
The Cats will rely on the play of Nathan Mawae, DaShawn Grooms and Frank Ford, Jr., along with Christian Sage and Jaymeion Henderson.
Offensively, the Cats will look to Caleb Gallashaw and Layne Self to keep doing what they have been doing all year and that is run the ball.
Gallashaw is the team leader in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, total touchdowns and yards from scrimmage. Last week against Bolton, he scored four TDs in the first half, two rushing, one receiving and the other on a kickoff return.
Self has accounted for a number of touchdowns from his fullback slot, while Jacob Mount is completing almost 60 percent of his passes for nearly 1,300 yards.
The Wampus Cats will play one more regular-season home game next Friday against Peabody as they prepare to make a playoff run.
