Kaden O'Banion (68) and Daniel Stier (54) combine on a tackle during action for Pickering last week against Rosepine. The Red Devils host Kinder at 2 p.m. Saturday in a huge District 5-2A contest

PICKERING – Last Friday's loss to Rosepine has to be a distant memory for the Pickering Red Devils.

With a chance to put themselves back into district title contention, the Red Devils now turn their focus to the Kinder Yellow Jackets, a 5-2A contest scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday at O'Banion Stadium.

The Red Devils are 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play, while Kinder is 3-2, 2-0.

The key to this game may be the fact Pickering has played a full schedule of games, while Kinder is coming off a Covid-19 quarantine, having not been on the field in a couple of weeks

The Kinder defense will have the task of keeping a Pickering offense able to move the ball down the field with proficiency in both the ground and through the air.

But the Pickering defense will have quite the feat to accomplish in stopping the vaunted ground game of the Yellow Jackets.

For the Red Devils, the offense relies on the skills of sophomore quarterback Marlon Freeney, who has had a phenomenal season thus far, accounting for over 1,500 total yards and over 20 touchdowns. Freeney is a dual threat quarterback who can sling the ball to his receivers, while also running over defensive backs and linebackers en route to picking up yardage.

Deon Street is the top running back for the Red Devils, while DeShawn Jackson and Evan Fernandez are the primary targets at receiver.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Red Devils will look to Savion Adams to lead Pickering to a big win.
