The Leesville City Council unanimously approved the purchase of land from Martin Timberlands LLC at Monday’s City Council meeting.
A lift station for the proposed substation on Entrance Road will be installed on the parcel of land.
The proposed substation is planned to facilitate faster response to fire-related emergencies.
The approval of the ordinance authorizes Leesville Mayor Rick Allen to execute a cash sale deed for the property. This parcel of land was appraised for $18,000.
The council also unanimously approved an agreement regarding the Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Transportation and Development approved master plan and/or airport layout plan to secure funding for the future airport developments of the Leesville Municipal Airport.
Phillip Hunt, member-at-large, said he visited the airport earlier, and commended it for its cleanliness, efficiency and kind staff.
“For three or four people to be able to do that, in that big an area, and keep it moving and clean, I just want to say thank you, and that’s a very awesome job.”
He encourages residents to visit the Leesville Municipal Airport – located four miles west of Leesville on La. 8 to “see a top notch small, municipality airport.”
Amber Guess, member-at-large, was not present at the meeting.
