Another storm system heading to Southwest Louisiana this weekend will bring widespread rainfall Saturday into Sunday.
“With wet soil conditions and above-normal streamflows that exist across the region, flood sensitivities will be elevated,” said National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Coordinator Doug Cramer.
Most locations in Southwest Louisiana have already received over 8 inches of rain over the past 30 days, Cramer said.
Urban-type flooding and potential additional rises on bayous, creeks and rivers are possible with this storm system.
Cramer said the area is at a level 2 of 4 in terms of potential flood risks.
“Several locations along the Calcasieu and Mermentau basins will see moderate flooding,” he said.
Storm conditions are expected about midnight Saturday morning and will continue through about 6 a.m. Sunday. A few lingering showers are possible through noon on Sunday.
Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches are forecast.
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s to low lows Saturday and Sunday.
