Dr. James H. Shade Jr.

Funeral services for Dr. James H. Shade, Jr., 79, of Leesville will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July
15, 2009 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Leesville with Rev. Joseph W. Garner officiating. The burial will follow in the Leesville Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time, Wednesday July 15, in the church. Funeral
services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home.
Dr. Shade passed away on Friday, July 10, 2009 at the Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville.
He was born in Picayune, Miss. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran
serving during the Korean Conflict. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern University, his masters from Xavier University and his doctorate from Walden University in Naples, Fla. He worked for the University of New Orleans as a
counselor for 23 years. He was a member and head usher at the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in New Orleans. He was also highly involved with the Alliance for Good Government in New Orleans. He and his wife have lived in Leesville since Hurricane
Katrina. During that time he attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Shade of Leesville; son, James H. Shade, III of New Orleans; brother, Gene H. ( wife, Linda) Shade of Nashville,
Tenn.; sisters, Othella Anderson of Houston, Texas, Gloria (husband, Thurman, Jr.) Prescott of Durham, N.C., J. LaVerne Coney of Leesville and Parthenia Douglas-Beal of Leesville; and numerous nephews and nieces.
